Being the biggest historic district in the USA, Savannah was maintaining its historic features since the times of the Civil War. It contains unique park spaces, gardens, historic structures, and unique city designs. 

Most of the area is dedicated to the founder of the state, James Oglethorpe. And he was a person who spread civic virtue ideas in the period of Enlightenment. 

Established in 1733, this historic district contains around 1300 acres. Also, it considers as an official National Historic Landmark District.

Thomas Carnegie, the Scottish-American industrialist, and his wife purchased more than 90% of this island in the 19th century. Dungeness Ruins represent the winter gateway home of them.

As good parents, they have built 3 other estates for their children as well. But, they were also abandoned during The Great Depression-era (from 1929-1939).

And in 1959, the island faces a massive fire and all the abandoned mansions were severely damaged by remaining the Dungeness Ruins. But, still, you can see the remnants of the pool house, gardens, and the structure of the main building.

I always like to visit aviation museums. So, here’s the chance for that in Georgia. The Museum of Aviation offers you a great chance to see various aircraft.

Especially, the Robin Airforce Base of this museum shows four major hangers. And this collection is expanding day by day.

Visiting this waterfall is one of the most exciting things to do in Georgia. And it is located within Gifford Pinchot National Forest on the Cohutta Mountains of Georgia. Actually, it belongs to the southern region of the Smoky Mountains.

“Cabbage Patch Kids” was a doll production line that produced a few decades ago in the USA. It created a popular concept of adopting the dolls yourself.

Actually, your kids will love the process of adopting a new doll by themselves. They have to sign for papers and officially get the certification of adopting a doll. And it is totally an official process.

Locating in southwest Georgia, this place has a fascinating story. Actually, this place has created as a result of huge soil erosion caused by harmful farming practices in the 19th century.

But, now it is such a place that offers panoramic views for the visitors. Therefore it is definitely worth trying a hike there. 

Different flowers with various colors and various colors on the walls of the canyon have created Providence Canyon State Park as one of the best rock climbing sites in Georgia.

Georgia Guidestones is a very strange but a very famous spot in the state. The reason behind that is, those stones are placed in a very strange way which is recognized as an accurate astronomical calendar. 

For example, at noon, the sun’s glare shows the date of the current day, engraved inside the structure. And also the records say that a time capsule is buried beneath it.

Further, it mentions four ancient language names etched into the top. Therefore all the visitors are so confused about “who made this” and “are they true or not”. It is totally a mystery. 

On the other hand, the engraved guidelines of the Georgia Guidestones say more about re-establishing the society and the planet through 8 different languages as well. 

But, it is believed that this place was developed by Elberton Granite Finishing Company under the guidelines of R.C. Christian in 1980. But, the identity of this person, company, and construction plan was not socialized. It is also a hidden fact.

Brasstown Bald

Brasstown Bald is the highest mountain point in Georgia. It is locating 4784 feet above sea level. Therefore reaching the top of this place is one of the funniest things to do in Georgia. 

And also there’s a large observation center on the top as well. So, all the visitors can observe the surroundings or look down clearly and safely.

For me, Bald was one of the best viewpoints to get the most beautiful natural views of Northern Georgia.

One of the unique places to visit in Georgia is BAPS Sri Swaminarayan Mandir. Therefore, a lot of tourists are attracted to this place annually. 

Actually, it is a very big Hindu temple with attractive architecture. And, according to the facts, it is considered the biggest Hindu Temple located outside of India.

Also, there’s another interesting fact about the construction of BAPS. It has used hand-carved stone pieces (more than 34,000) brought from India.

Therefore you can see Indian pink sandstones, Turkish limestones, and Italian Carrara marbles arranged in a creative style. Isn’t it amazing?

Since 2007, all the Georgia visitors tend to come to this place to worship God, observe the architecture, and to know the culture and history.  

The architecture of BAPS includes 5 pinnacles, 116 archways, 340 columns, 86 decorative ceilings, and many statues.

Locating exactly in Lilburn, Georgia, the Mandir extends for around 30 acres and the height of the building is around 75 feet. So, it considers as the tallest local structure as well.

Appalachian Trail 

The nice trail stretches from Georgia to Maine. Yeah, it is very long. Actually, the hikers’ records say that it would take around 7 months to complete the whole Appalachian Trail.

Do you know Jim Henson? He was a famous American puppeteer, actor, animator, cartoonist, filmmaker, and inventor. Actually, he was the creator of “The Muppets and Fraggle Rock “. 

The Center of Puppetry Art is has a huge collection of artifacts related to the great creator Jum Henson. Therefore, this place is one of the funniest places to visit in Georgia.

The Big House Museum

Do you know about Allman Brothers Band? It was a famous music band formed in 1969. And they had many hit songs through their four decades of career.

The Great American artist and a baptist minister Howard Finster was born and raised in Georgia. He was grown up in a family with 13 family members. 

After he dropped out of school and became a preacher at the age of 16. And there was a belief that he had some kind of spiritual revelation as well.

The important fact about his work was all the discarded and recycled materials were used for the garden arts. And he has referred to it as Plant Farm Museum.

Cathedral of St John the Baptist

Cathedral of St John the Baptist in Georgia is an ideal place for fans of Catholic history. 

The people in Savannah who had faith constructed this cathedral between 1873 – 1896. But, after 2 years, the whole cathedral was destroyed by a fire.

And again it was reconstructed between 1900 to 1912. They had given a huge commitment to rebuilt it as the original structure. 

This amazing architecture contains unique stained glass windows, cross carvings of Bavarian wood, and an attractive facade.  

Actually, the Cathedral of St John the Baptist is the mother church of Savannah Roman Catholic Diocese church. 

In old days, Savannah has prohibited Roman Catholic settlers due to their loyalty to Spain. But, with the time and after the Revolution, the barrier has removed. 

As a result, many Catholics from Haiti and escaping slave rebellions have settled here as the first Catholics.

Stone Mountain is one of the most impressive places to visit in Georgia as there are plenty of things to do.

After all, those wars the fort was preserved well and converted into Pulaski National Monument. Now, you can observe the parapets, ramparts, grounds, and a museum.

The Eye of God is a pothole that is created as a result of all the river things (like stones, debris, pebbles, and water) carving into the bedrock beneath. 

Since the hole is filled with so many debris, nobody has discovered the depth of it. Therefore, it is not a good idea to swim in it.

On the other hand, as the water is also whirlpooling it is totally dangerous to swim in it. And in the heavy rainy days or floods, this hole expands. Then, it is too dangerous to visit close. 

So, check for the weather and enjoy this natural wonder safely. 

Old Car City

The Old Car City is a fun place to visit in Georgia. And also it is a very unique place as well. 

Especially, photographers consider this place as a paradise. Actually, you will realize the reason once you enter this place.

Covering 32 acres, it is a junkyard with vintage cars and other vehicles. They are very old and about to fall. Also covered with moss, fauna, and other things. 

The family who owned this land (Lewis Family) has started to collect various vehicles from 1931. And now, you can see the result. 

This place really looks like a natural forest mixed with old vehicles. That’s why many photographers are attracted to this place. 

Being one of the biggest automobile junkyards in the world, this place has over 4000 vehicles.

National Museum of the Mighty Eighth Air Force

National Museum of the Mighty Eighth Air Force is a great museum to celebrate the American Armed Force (the Heavy Bombed Squad) or the Eighth Air Force Division. 

Do you know? This place was built in the World War II era. But, still, it is there without any damage. Isn’t it shocking?

Oakland Cemetery

Welcome to the oldest cemetery in Atlanta Georgia. In 1850, the Atlanta Cemetery turned into Oakland Cemetery with reducing the land into just 6 acres. 

Since oaks are surrounding, the name was created. And currently, it has around 48 acres.

As six state governors, industry captains, civil rights pioneers, Civil War soldiers, 25 Atlanta mayors, Great Locomotive Chase employees (a military raid), and many special people lie here. 

I know this a creepy place. But, yet I suggest you visit this place and give the honor to the Civil War soldiers. 

Colonial Park Cemetery

Since this is another cemetery, you can totally remove this from the list. But, before that, I will give you the reasons why I’ve mentioned it here. 

If you are a history lover or love ghost hunting, Colonial Park Cemetery in Savannah is ideal for you. 

Yes, it is true. The history of this place is very deep and dark. Therefore people consider this place as the city’s most haunted place. 

Many first settlers in Georgia are resting in this place since 1750 (Including some of the specially highlighted deaths). For example 700 victims from the yellow fever pandemic in 1820. 

After the Civil War, this savannah was largely abandoned. So, Willian Sherman, a famous American soldier gifted this city to Abraham Lincon as a Christmas present.   

However, this Colonial Park Cemetery tells you a huge history. Just visit and discover them all. 

Krog Steel Tunnel

Connecting two neighborhoods in Atlanta, the Krog Steel Tunnel was built in 1912. Do not misunderstand. This is not an ordinary tunnel covered with graffiti.

This is a unique one.  That is the reason many tourists are attracted to this place.

Actually, this street art you currently see in this tunnel is the creations of two neighborhoods that travel through this. Almost all the walls are painted and there’s zero space for new art.   

People create this artwork since the 1960s until now. And you can see brilliant murals, images, and many storylines in these tunnel walls.  

The stories are related to political, cultural, philosophical, and romantic influences. And obviously, the old ones are always covering by the new creations of new artists daily. 

Krog Steel Tunnel is a nice symbol of community art and exchange. So, visiting this place is one of the best things to do in Georgia. 

Radium Springs Gardens, Albany

If you have not heard about Radium Springs Gardens, here are some details about it. 

Radium Springs is an unincorporated community which is located in Albany, Georgia. Since this is the largest natural spring in the state, it considers as one of the seven natural wonders in Georgia as well.

I’m sorry, but the only way to visit this island is to book a room in its resort, The Cloister. Because this is a private sea island.

More than those luxurious facilities, this place offers magnificent sea views. Therefore, The Cloister is the only Forbes Five Star Restaurant in Georgia.

Gibbs Gardens

Jim Gibbs was the president of one of Atlanta’s leading landscape companies called Gibbs Landscape Company. Actually, he was the person who created this awesome daffodil garden.

He has spent decades turning his 300 acres of property to convert into a public garden filled with flowers. Also, this stunning place has a Japanese garden and a replica of Monet’s bridge.

Sanford Stadium

UGA’s Sanford Stadium, Athens is very famous for college football. So, if you like to go back to those college memories, you definitely should try this place.

Visiting Pearson Farm is the best way to end the Georgia tour. In the intro, I said to you that this is the Peach State. So, here’s the chance to eat a peach in Georgia.
